My home has been Nahant for the past 23 years. My wife and I are raising our family here.
In public life, I have served as an elected member of the Planning Board and on the Nahant Housing Sub-committee. I am a member of the Nahant Preservation Trust and have served on the all volunteer board.
For many years I have been involved with efforts to protect our natural resources and public open space through Keep Nahant Wild. In 2007, I Co-Founded Friends of Mary Cummings Park which worked with public officials in Burlington and Woburn to garner public support for preservation of 300 acres of public parkland.
My professional background is primarily in IT and management. I have worked for many years in software development on a variety of projects. I have managed both project teams and direct reports to deliver enterprise software solutions.
For my education I earned a joint master’s degree in engineering and management from MIT School of Engineering and MIT Sloan School of Management. I also earned a master of computer science from Boston University and a bachelor’s degree in history from Boston College.
About Me
Values
In working with other Nahant residents on Town boards and committees I have often reminded others (and myself) that we are all neighbors and the people that are most passionate about something and willing to put themselves out there deserve to be heard.
At the end of the day after expressing our different viewpoints we walk along the same paths, drink the same water, swim in the same ocean, and after a cold and snowy Winter sometimes we hit the same potholes.
Democracy, real democracy, like the Open Town Meeting form of government we hold true to in Nahant is such a rare and beautiful thing. Every Nahant resident can show up for annual Town Meeting and vote on the Town budget and the laws that affect us here. Our democratic traditions aren’t just quaint, they are essential.
The Board of Selectmen is an executive board, which means we execute what the people of the Town directly approve with their votes.
Yes, we can create regulations, put warrant articles before town meeting and help set budget priorities, ultimately we are there to faithfully execute the municipal laws of the Commonwealth and most importantly what our fellow Nahant residents expressly voted for us to do.
Our leading voices and influence over town policy must always give priority to the will of the people that voted for us.
Priorities
Continue to build and execute on a sustainable plan for the town’s future. Working collaboratively with the Town Administrator, Advisory and Finance Committee and other volunteer committees to address operations, planning and prioritize infrastructure needs within our budget.
Address the immediate needs for compliance with state housing mandates (such as Chapter 3A) in a way that respects Nahant’s character and minimizes impacts. Making sure that any redevelopment works for Nahant.
Stay the course on preserving Nahant’s nature and character in keeping with budget, priorities and bylaws set by our Open Town Meeting. Preserving East Point and Lodge Park. Preserving Bailey’s Hill, the Lowlands and Short Beach.
Plan for and execute on projects for Nahant’s coastal resiliency in the face of potentially increasing risks from storms and flooding.
